Five Years in Hong Kong Department Stores

Five Years in Hong Kong: Beginning at the Heart of the City

iSwim spent five years in Hong Kong’s Langham Place and YATA department stores. This cross-city chapter marked the first time our minimal, body-following design was truly seen beyond Taiwan.

The First Moment of Being Seen

In the early days of iSwim, we were still offering selected Japanese international swimwear brands, including the arena collection, which had long been loved across Asia.

During that time, customers from Hong Kong began to appear consistently. Perhaps for the first time, we clearly felt that ——

iSwim’s design language was being seen beyond Taiwan.

Entering the City’s Core

Soon after, iSwim officially entered Langham Place Seibu Department Store, located in one of Hong Kong’s most iconic central commercial districts.

There, the brand established its first long-term physical retail presence.

Following a department store renovation, the counter later moved to YATA Department Store, another well-known Japanese retail system in Hong Kong. Altogether, iSwim’s physical retail journey in the city lasted a full five years.

Beyond Retail: The Exhibition Years

In 2012, iSwim first participated in an exhibition held at The Venetian Macao. That year marked the 5th edition of the Asian Adult Expo and, at the same time, the inaugural launch of the Intimate Lingerie Asia exhibition.

In the following year, 2013, iSwim exhibited again at Intimate Lingerie Asia, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

These exhibitions were not merely industry appearances. They marked iSwim’s earliest moments of standing within the broader Asian intimate apparel landscape ——

allowing the brand’s minimal, body-following design language to be seen in a more open and international context.

A Quiet Moment on the Exhibition Floor

At the Hong Kong exhibition in 2013, I met a pleasure-product manufacturer from Osaka, Japan.

What stayed with me was not the product itself, but his fluent Mandarin. In that brief moment, it became clear ——

crossing cities and cultures is not only about a brand being seen, but also about people quietly understanding one another within the same shared space.

It was a calm moment, yet one remembered by time.

A Confirmation Beyond Taiwan

Those five years were more than a sales experience.

They marked the first true confirmation that our minimal-fabric philosophy and body-following cutting language could be genuinely understood ——

even outside Taiwan.

Seen by the World for the First Time

Looking back today, Hong Kong was never just another location.

It was:

the first place where iSwim was truly seen by the world.

If you are reading about iSwim now, you may simply see a piece of minimal underwear.

But behind those clean lines lies a quiet accumulation of choices that have crossed cities and years.

And the five-year chapter that began at Langham Place remains one of the calmest ——

yet most important pages in our story.
